DCNS Lorient Shipyard Guided Tour, Thursday, 1 October 2009

dcns

6To round off the biggest week of the year for OPV programmes and business development, we offer an exclusive opportunity to see first hand how warships are built. In conjunction with DCNS, we have arranged a guided tour of its Lorient shipyard. Following three days of productive and interactive diascussions on OPV challenges and issues – from national requirements to worldwide programme updates, insights into technologies to expand mission capabilities, operational feedback and presentations by market leaders – it’s time to see first hand how Maritime Security Solutions and dual technologies come together.

DCNS is a European leader in integrated solutions for navies and Lorient is one of its main shipyards, as well as the oldest. Since the fifteenth century, DCNS and its predecessors have built several hundred warships at Lorient. Major recent programmes have included:

  • Al Riyadh-class frigates (Sawari programme) for Saudi Arabia
  • Formidable-class frigates (Delta programme) for Singapore
  • Horizon air defence frigates (a Franco-Italian programme) for the French Navy.

Today, Lorient is building FREMM multimission frigates, the most advanced currently under construction in Europe. DCNS develop maritime security solutions for the future, including systems of systems, mission systems, OPVs and UXV integration systems. DCNS has also developed virtual reality tools to optimise warship design.

This full day of activities will include a demonstration of DCNS’s total-immersion 3D virtual reality tool and demonstrations by French maritime security assets, with ample opportunities for interactive discussions with all participants.
